I was thinking about something my mom told me when I was a little girl.
Curious little me innocently asked, “mom why do we not fold hands while praying like my friends?”
The reply she gave will always stay with me and perhaps I’ll teach my kids the same too.
“If you open hands only, God will give you.”
And years later, I suddenly understood it differently.
Think about a person begging on the street.
When they ask you for something, they don’t close their hands. They hold them out. Their palms are open because they are saying, without words:
I need something I don’t have.
You have something I need.
And I’m asking you to give it to me.
And if you have the ability to give , you put something into those open hands.
And suddenly I thought:
Isn’t that what we are before God?
You can be the richest of the rich or the poorest of the poor: but all of us open our hands before our Lord perhaps in way of saying “Oh lord, I come to you with nothing.”
We can accumulate all the money, power, achievements, status but there will always be something that we so desperately need and so we open our hands to the one who has the capability of giving that to us.
Maybe that is what makes those open hands so beautiful to me.
Because before God, it doesn’t matter how much you have managed to collect in this world.
We all come as beggars.
With open hands.
Asking from the One who has everything.
Thanks y’all for reading ❣️
Until next time!
